SSDI: Physical & Mental Disabilities

Social Security Disability Attorneys — Greenville, South Carolina

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a government benefit administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA). Contrary to what some people say or believe, SSDI is not welfare.

Who is eligable for SSDI  benefits. Every worker pays into the system by paying Social Security taxes on their wages. While most people withdraw Social Security when they retire, people who suffer a serious physical or mental injury that limits their ability to work may receive benefits at an earlier age through SSDI.

Social Security Disability Claims: Eligibility and Age

As a general rule, it becomes easier to receive SSDI benefits as you get older. This is especially true if you are 55 years of age or older. For young people, obtaining SSDI benefits can be more of a challenge. To be eligible for SSDI benefits, a person must generally have worked 5 out of the last 10 years. For young people who have suffered a debilitating injury or condition, this can be difficult. However, SSI benefits may be available to young workers who are not eligible for SSDI benefits.

Our experienced SSDI/SSI attorneys are here to help everyone — young and older — who are in need of help. Our partners, attorneys Ted Greve and Jefferson Wood, have been passionately advocating for the rights of the injured and disabled since 1993.
